To say that space is limited at Mount Nebo Holy
Church is definitely an understatement
, according
to Bishop D. Elaine Harris, pastor of the cramped church
on Chestnut Street.

"It's hard for me to stretch my feet in this space to do what I need to do in ministry, let alone administratively," said Harris about the 81-year-old edifice—a former
schoolhouse with a 100-seat sanctuary and scarcely enough meeting spaces to qualify as "bare necessities," she said. "We're doing the best with what we've
got."
But, she said, "the best" that the church can do in its current structure is inadequate to meet the mounting needs of its community. So the church is soon to
begin a major building project that will enhance its ability to serve its members and other area residents.
"There are so many needs in this community. If the church is going to do its job—which is to reach out to the world like Jesus did—we need to grow," said Harris,
Mt. Nebo's pastor for the past 20 years.
Mt. Nebo plans to expand to nearly double its size—about 7,200 square-feet, Harris said. The new space will consist largely of additional meeting areas, she
said, including office spaces, classrooms, conference rooms and community-meeting areas. The church kitchen will also be expanded to accommodate a new
nutrition program.
The additional spaces will enable the church to enlarge existing programs and offer new ones, Harris said. Some of the ministries planned by the church include
the following: a senior citizens center that will provide social, health and financial support programs; an education program, featuring career counseling, Bible
classes and a GED program; and another outreach effort that will target underprivileged individuals and families with counseling and information about nutrition,
employment and health.
Harris said a site plan for the building project was recently approved by township planners. The church is now seeking bids from contractors and hopes to begin
construction soon.

Expansion Program of the Mt. Nebo Holy Church - Purpose and Impact Statement

The Mount Nebo Holy Church has a rich and productive tradition in the Mt. Holly Township area.

This year, 2007, marks 81 years as a house of worship in the community. The first location was at 31 Willow
Street, then in 1932 to 244 Chestnut Street. In 1963, the church relocated to the present location, 243 Chestnut
Street, formerly the Samuel Aaron School.
One primary goal of the Church, is to enrich the lives of it congregants, as well as, others in community. It is this
objective that under girds the 2007 expansion project.

We believe the church exists to change, improve and enhance the lives of people; of all ages, gender and
ethnicity.
Presently, we are impacting the lives of hundreds every year. THE VISION is to thrust the
existing ministries into a much broader and diverse arena.
Space in our present building is limited. An
expanded facility will enable us to house and administer the ministries visualized.
THE VISION is for an increased holistic ministry, which will touch and enhance the lives of people: spiritually,
nutritionally, medically, educationally and socially. Those whose lives we are able to touch will experience the
love of God impacting their lives on both positive and practical levels.

Plans are for:
Samaritan Place: Outreach to the needy for health, counseling, nutrition, & employment

TOPS: Youth service programs to promote self-worth, education, building positive relationships, and tutorial and
recreational services.

Senior Citizen Center: social, health and financial supportive programs

Educational Center: GED Program, career counseling, Bible Classes, Educational Planning

Communication's Ministry Center: audio and visual, and others...

Our congregation is confident that this expansion will be a welcomed and positive addition to
the community.
