| About Our Church We are a congregation of the Mt. Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc., called to witness to the truth that: God was in Christ Jesus reconciling the world unto Himself and hath committed unto us this ministry of reconciliation. We firmly believe the purpose of the church is to reach out to humanity and to evangelize the world. We recognize that our strength is formulated in the words of Christ. “Upon this rock I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” We are called to Worship, to Witness and to Service. |

| Church History Mt. Nebo Holy Church was founded in 1926. Elder Margaret Polk testified that the Lord told her to go to Mt. Holly, New Jersey. At that time she was not aware of such a place. By the leading of the Holy Spirit, she learned of its location. She moved in faith and journeyed to Mt. Holly, there she established a church. The church was originally located at 31 Willow Street in 1932 and at one time was known as “Lily of the Valley”. A church edifice was erected at 244 Chestnut Street. Elder Matilda Cottman was instrumental in that effort. The Lord blessed and many members were added to the congregation. Between 1926 and 1950 the following leaders were pastors of Mt. Nebo: Elder Margaret Polk, Elder William Pennock, Elder Matilda Cottman, Elder Minnie Stith and Elder James Bagley. All these have gone to be with the Lord, but their work continues. In 1950, Elder Amy Bell, who became Bishop Amy Stevens, was assigned as pastor. During her tenure, another building was purchased at 243 Chestnut Street. After renovations, that building became the beautiful edifice in which you are now seated. Bishop Stevens pastured for seventeen blessed years. In 1966 she was appointed pastor of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Wilmington, Delaware. She served as President of Mt. Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc. and pastor of Mt. Olive Holy Temple in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She went home to be with the Lord in September 2000. The late Bishop William Caldwell assumed the leadership of the church in 1966. He was followed by Elder William Roane in 1974. In 1978, Elder Joanna Harris was appointed pastor. She served faithfully until her passing in March 1987. Our current pastor, Bishop D. Elaine Harris, was appointed in 1987. In the most recent quarter of the church’s 80 years, the church has witnessed the move of God in preparing the church for the next era of ministry. Our Purpose Statement has been: “To Evangelize the Word and Reach Out to Humanity”. To accomplish this purpose we are called to be: worshippers, witnesses and workers to the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Prayerful and strategic planning to develop the infra-structure of the church began under Elder Joanna Harris and continues under the capable leadership of our present pastor, Bishop D. Elaine Harris. Our Pastor, following the leading of the Lord, has carefully and extensively taught and demonstrated the importance of prayer, organization, planning and preparation for ministry. This godly direction has impacted the spiritual, evangelical, and financial life of the church, in a significant and valuable way. In this 80th year of the church, we are launching the next era of church ministry. Our pastor teaches and we believe the church exists to change, improve and enhance the live of people; of all ages, gender and ethnicity. THE VISION, therefore, is to “enlarge the place of our tent”. In so doing, the work of the Lord will be accomplished at the optimum level that God has already determined. An expanded facility will enable us to house and administer the ministries envisioned. With the guidance and favor of God, we hope to break ground for this building project in 2006. Mt. Nebo Holy Church has stood for the past 80 years. It has stood because the focus of its ministry has been to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, His teaching and direction. As we place an Ebenezer stone on this 80th year, as a symbol of the favor of God, we rejoice. As we look ahead we expect the blessings of the Lord that come to the faithful and the obedient. For Our God has plans for us, to bring us to an expected and glorious end. “And a voice came out of the throne saying, praise Our God, all ye His servants and ye that fear Him, both small and great.” (Rev. 19:5) We expect to sing a new song in that Great Day of the Lord! Our benediction is this: that when the final report is made and Christ shall deliver up the kingdom, to God the Father, when His glorious victory is told; those of us gathered here today, will reconvene, in The Eternal Kingdom of our Lord, participants in a worship experience that will never dismiss! God Bless you for sharing with us in this 80th Anniversary Celebration. This 80th year God has been gracious And has performed marvelous things |
